Types of back and spinal injuries.

Minor back injuries generally show no visible signs but can be very painful, leading to time away from work and much pain and suffering.

Serious back injuries can occur anywhere, for example whilst at work, out on the road or from tripping on uneven pavement slabs. These types of injuries can be debilitating and often lead to much pain and suffering. Many people suffering back injuries have to take time off work to recover and this can lead to a loss of income and subsequent financial troubles. Rehabilitation following a back injury can vastly improve a person’s life, this can be expensive and therefore a specialist lawyer is essential to help you get sufficient compensation for your suffering.

Spinal injuries have a big impact on people because they are so distressing and have long term implications. Spinal injuries can occur as a result of road accidents, clinical negligence, sporting accidents and accidents at work, in many cases being in some part due to some else’s negligence. Spinal injuries tend to lead to higher levels of compensation than other types of injury as many injuries result in some form of paralysis which will have a serious impact on quality of life.

Many people are unable to continue in their profession and should therefore be compensated for their loss of earnings. They will also usually require modifications to their accommodation and living areas. Many often need new accommodation specially built to their needs and specialist equipment to improve their mobility.

For anyone with a serious back or spinal injury, early rehabilitation is essential. Your specialist lawyer will be able to find the most suitable rehabilitation centre for you to help get your life back on track as soon as possible.

Other costs such as the cost of life-long care need to be taken into account when making a claim for compensation. It is imperative that your specialist lawyer ensures that you receive sufficient compensation to restore your life to what it was as much as they possibly can. Your specialist lawyer will also provide for your long-term future, including loss of your pension from work.

Causes of back/spinal injuries

  • Road traffic accidents - whiplash might be the most common injury, but much more severe injuries can result from serious accidents
  • Construction site accidents
  • Lifting or moving heavy objects - most common in the workplace where inadequate training or lack of a risk assessment can result in injury
  • Slips, trips and falls - caused by wet, slippery and uneven surfaces
  • Faulty products - such as ladders and chairs which can break leading to a fall

It is strongly recommended that you should consult with two or three accredited injury lawyers before making a decision on who to instruct.
