Allan became a QC in April 2003. He has been a barrister member of APIL since its foundation, specialising in accident, disease and medical cases. He is a fellow and past president of APIL.
Allan is particularly well-regarded for his specialist expertise in claims involving asbestos and other industrial diseases. He also has a strong reputation in the fields of disaster litigation, employers’ liability and catastrophic injury (particularly brain damage and spinal injuries).
In the field of clinical negligence, Allan’s expertise extends to a variety of areas of medical practice, including A & E, cardiology, surgery and with particular emphasis on birth asphyxia cases.
Allan is a regular speaker at APIL meetings and conferences and contributor to APIL publications and papers.
Allan is listed in chambers directory and the legal 500 in both clinical negligence and personal injury. He is a member of the Personal Injury and the Professional Negligence Bar Associations, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Australian Plaintiff Lawyers Association and also the Pan European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers.
Allan was educated at Trinity Hall, Cambridge (MA) (LLB First class honours). From 1975 to 1982, he lectured in law at the (then) South Bank Polytechnic. He was at one time course director of the honours law degree and also instructor and examiner on the bar finals.
