Nicola Critchley

Partner & Head of Client Strategy for Insurance DWF, Manchester

Nicola's strategic focus is on all things costs related from low value injury claims through to multimillion-pound actions. She works closely with her clients in supporting initiatives to help control their indemnity spend and develop strategies connected to costs and reform. Nicola has extensive experience working with insurers and self-insureds for more than 25 years.

Nicola is a key figure in the insurance market.  She sits on the Civil Justice Council (CJC), is the Council observer on the Civil Procedure Rule Committee and member of the Law Society Civil Justice Committee. She has chaired two CJC working groups culminating in reports supporting change in travel sickness and low value injury personal injury claims. Nicola is currently involved with the CJC working groups looking at the pre-action protocols, data and enforcement. She has worked closely with the CPRC and MIB on the whiplash reforms being a member of the whiplash working group and had broad engagement with the industry in relation to the fixed costs extension. Nicola is the immediate past President of FOIL, sits on the FOIL Costs Sector and Protocol Focus Teams and is on the FOIL National Executive Committee.
