About Adrian Budgen

I joined Irwin Mitchell in April 1990 and became a partner in the Personal Injury department in May 1994, based in Sheffield.  I am the National Team Leader for the Asbestos and Occupational Disease (AOD) specialist team, which is the largest and most experienced team of its kind in the UK. 

I have a special interest in asbestos-related disease cases, particularly mesothelioma.  I've written and lectured widely on the subject of asbestos cancer and personal injury litigation. 

I had the sad privilege of representing June Hancock who was the first environmental asbestos victim in the UK to be awarded compensation; and I also achieved the highest award for an industrial disease/fatal injury case of £4.37 million.  I have represented several hundred mesothelioma sufferers over the course of the last 34 years. 

I am a founding trustee of the June Hancock Mesothelioma Research Fund and am also a director/trustee of the Sheffield Occupational Health Advisory Service. I regularly attend meetings of the All Party Parliamentary Occupational Safety and Health Group - Asbestos Sub-Committee. I am Chair of the Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation, an independent charity, and a longstanding supporter of Mesothelioma UK. Irwin Mitchell has been appointed to Mesothelioma UK's Legal Panel in England/Wales, and in Scotland, and I am the firm's lead representative. Outside of work, I love to spend time with my better half, Jane, my children and family (including our two Golden Retrievers - Hazel and Daisy!) and I also enjoy reading, gardening and exploring the great countryside around us.
