About Claire Horton

I am a clinical negligence partner in Fieldfisher's Manchester Medical Negligence team. I qualified as a solicitor in 1990 and have specialised in clinical negligence claims and very high value cases ever since. I have been appointed to both the AvMA Clinical Negligence and Law Society Clinical Negligence Specialist panels for over 20 years.

I have settled many complex multi million pound cases ensuring full compensation for my clients for their injuiries, to meet their lifelong needs. Often I have found creative ways at the cutting edge of developing law to acheive this.

In particular I have settled the following types of claim, often in relation to children;

• birth injury,
• brain injury,
• spinal injury,
• fatal medical error,
• compartment syndrome 
• orthopoedic injury.

I have helped develop new law in relation to cases relating to late cancer diagnosis.

Many of my clients are so severely injured that they are unable to manage their own affairs and I therefore have considerable experience in working with case managers and the Court of Protection during the currency of the case. I often manage and coordinate large teams of medical experts and treating therapists in order firstly to develop the evidence to ensure success in the litigation and then to obtain maximum damages for my clients.

I have supervised and trained many junior lawyers. I also have a counselling diploma from Manchester University.
