About Helen Tomlin

I am a Solicitor, specialising in handling claims on behalf of sufferers of asbestos related disease, and their families. I have specialised in asbestos claims for over 15 years, since I qualified in 2004.

As part of Thompsons' specialist asbestos team, I work on behalf of current and former trade union members, and non-trade union clients, to investigate and settle claims for people suffering with asbestos injuries, including mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis and diffuse pleural thickening.

I am a fully qualified asbestos specialist, having been awarded the APIL specialist practitioner accreditation. As a firm, we have also recently been awarded one of eight coveted spots on the Mesothelioma UK Legal Panel. Mesothelioma UK is a charity working specifically to help and support patients with mesothelioma, and to be recognised as a specialist by them is a true honour. Our specialism in providing top class advice to asbestos sufferers is also recognised by the Forum of Asbestos Victim Support Groups, where we are delighted to be on the legal panel for both the Yorkshire Asbestos Support Group (SARAG) and the Derbyshire Asbestos Support Team (DAST) in my area, and for many other Forum groups nationwide.

During my time working with people diagnosed with asbestos injuries, I have had the privilege to meet some truly remarkable people. I have pursued claims for teachers, office workers, tax inspectors, caravan builders, power station employees. electricians, plumbers, railway workers, caretakers, hospital staff and many more. One the reasons I love my job so much is the insight it gives me into so many different walks of life. I find the people that I represent endlessly fascinating, and to see the courage and dignity that they display in the toughest of times is inspiring.

I understand how important it is to make people feel comfortable and confident in their choice of Solicitor. I will come and meet you at your home, and we will chat through all the different aspects of your claim. I will arrange for specialist benefits advisors to visit you at your home, to make sure that you can access financial and practical support when you need it. Thompsons' reputation as one of the leading PI firms in the country means that I have access to the top experts to prepare the evidence in your case.I will do everything I can to bring your claim to a fair and just resolution in as quick a time as possible.

As well as my work with my clients and their families, I also spend time learning about all aspects of asbestos disease. Thompsons' national team provide me with the best specialist training, to keep me up to date with all the legal developments, to ensure that I am using my skills to best advantage of my clients. In addition, I work with medical professionals to understand the treatments and pathways of patients through the medical system, so that I can better empathise and work with my clients. I regularly attend medical meetings on asbestos related disease, so that I am up to date with all the different clinical trials and medical developments as they happen. Our work with the Mesothelioma UK gives us a vital link to their expertise, so we can direct clients to the Mesothelioma UK resources, to find out about new trials, or practical advice on symptom management, from the specialists. I also regularly put my baking skills to the test to whip up a cake or three for bake sales, or run a few kilometres now and then, to raise money for the Mesothelioma UK charity.

At a time of great uncertainty, I will help to guide you through the legal system, offering sensitive, empathetic advice and support where I can, to make sure that we achieve financial security for you and your family, as quickly and as straightforwardly as possible.
