About Hugh Johnson
Hugh is a partner and Head of the Medical Negligence Department at Osbornes Law in London.
Osbornes Law is an award winning specialist private client law firm advising clients from all over London, the UK and overseas. The Osbornes Medical Negligence Team support clients with significant and life changing injuries, to include child birth injury, spinal and brain injuries.
Hugh is a solicitor conducting complex and high-value claims, with a particular interest in claims involving spinal cord injury, whether as a result of failed diagnosis, substandard surgery or inadequate management of pre-existing conditions such as mental health care. For 20 years, Hugh has assisted Claimants following injury, recovering in excess of £65 million in damages to assist them to rebuild their lives. In 2025 Hugh concluded a Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES) case for agreed damages of over £6 million, which is believed to be the highest settlement award in England and Wales for an injury of that type.
Hugh is a regular speaker, author and campaigner on the topic of medical negligence and spinal injury, in particular. Between 2014 and 2018, Hugh held the post of Group Secretary of the APIL Spinal Injuries Group, before being elected by members as the Group Coordinator. Between 2018-2022, he assisted with the coordination of APIL policy for spinal injury and with the organisation of educational seminars for members.
