About Jonathan Rees

Jon has over 15 years' of experience of personal injury litigation. Jon is a Fellow of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), and is a former member of the Law Society’s Personal Injury Panel. Jon began his career in 1996 with Hugh James where he was a partner prior to joining Brethertons in October 2011. His background is in representing claimants in high value personal injury claims and in group actions. Having assisted with the British Coal Respiratory Disease Litigation and other group actions, Jon was the Court appointed lead solicitor in the Akehurst & Others v Thomson Holidays Ltd (‘The Gerona Air Crash Group Litigation’). This was the first (and remains the only) case in which passengers injured in an air accident recovered compensation for psychiatric injuries. The litigation attracted national and international interest. Jon is experienced in representing claimants in all manner of personal injury actions, although he specialises in conducting high value and complex injury compensation claims. Jon's main focus is in helping claimants who have suffered spinal cord injuries. He is passionate about helping people who have suffered serious injuries to get the compensation they need in order to have a quality of life post accident that the State cannot provide. Jon has lectured widely on various aspects of the law, practice and procedure. He has written a number of articles for publications such as the New Law Journal, the Personal Injury Law Journal, the International Travel Law Journal and others. Jon has contributed as a speaker on various TV and radio programmes. Jon is a sometime blogger on personal injury law and tweets regularly. You can follow Jon on Twitter at @brethertonspi. Jon has contributed to various legal reform consultations assisting bodies such as the Law Society and the Association of Personal Injuries Lawyers, and has a keen interest in making the legal process and legal services more accessible and easier for clients to engage with. Brethertons has corporate accreditation with the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA), The Law Society Personal Injury Panel, APIL and Headway.
