About Richard Barr
I am a solicitor with more than 45 years of experience in the law, much of it in dealing with medical and serious injury cases. I am a Senior Litigator and an Accredited Clinical Negligence Specialist with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. I have been involved in running a number of important public cases including Gulf War claims, MMR vaccine claims and claims involving organophosphates along with a number of cases involving serious injuries as a result of medical negligence.
I am a consultant solicitor with Scott-Moncrieff & Associates Ltd – a firm of solicitors with a difference, with virtually all the solicitors and lawyers in the firm working from offices in their home. I run my cases from my home-office near North Walsham in North Norfolk. It is a fully equipped and secure office. All files and information are kept fully confidential. My wife Kirsten is a medico legal researcher and assists by providing input on medical matters. She worked in solicitors’ offices for more than 10 years. I also have a part-time secretary, Jennie. If I am not available either of them may take messages.
My stepdaughter was seriously injured as a result of medical negligence when she was very young (she is now in her early 30s), so I am very familiar with the consequences of negligence on family life. I am one of her carers. Another stepdaughter is a doctor (a neurosurgeon). My youngest stepdaughter is an outreach nurse. I have close contacts with many members of the medical profession who help with advice on my cases.
I run a small medical negligence practice and take most cases on, on a no win no fee arrangement. I make home visits to my clients (rather in the same way that my mother did for her patients all those years ago when she was the village doctor!)
I undertake most types of cllinical negligence cases ranging from misdiagnosed fractures and failure to treat right through to major life changing claims.
