Sian helps people who have sustained life changing injuries as a result of accidents or clinical negligence. Sian joined Brethertons as a paralegal straight after university. She was persuaded to stay on while completing her Legal Practice Course and was then offered a training contract. Sian qualified as a solicitor before becoming a senior associate.
Working closely with the team, Sian has an enviable and extensive experience in serious injuries litigation. She has assisted in a wide range of life changing injury cases including where the injuries have arisen as a result of clinical negligence, accidents at work, road traffic accidents and in public liability cases. Sian has also dealt with fatal accident, brain injury and amputation claims.
Sian is particularly experienced in spinal cord injury claims. She has experience in assisting Claimants who have suffered spinal cord injury where there was a delayed diagnosis of spinal epidural abscesses, negligent spinal surgery, and where the injury arose through the mismanagement of neck/back injuries that then caused avoidable damage to the spinal cord. Sian is experienced in helping people following complete and incomplete tetraplegia; complete and incomplete paraplegia and in cauda equina claims.
Sian is passionate about ensuring that our clients receive the right level of compensation for their losses. She recognises the importance of early access to rehabilitation following a life changing injury. Where possible she aims to obtain an interim payment and rehabilitation whilst identifying the immediate needs for therapy, equipment and adaptations with the assistance of a case manager. She is also experienced in periodic payment order (PPO) cases and cases involving provisional damages.
Sian has recovered and or assisted her colleagues in recovering compensation running into the tens of millions of pounds on a lump sum equivalent basis. Most of the settlements Sian and the team achieve are measured in six, seven or eight figures.
Sian’s work is widely admired by colleagues and clients alike. Sian has been praised by clients for her approachability, compassion, and ability in putting them at ease during a difficult and often overwhelming period in their life.
Sian is proud of the work she and her colleagues engage in beyond specialist life changing injury litigation.
Sian says, ‘We try to make a positive difference to all those who have suffered life changing injuries. Obviously our experience as litigation solicitors is where we can be of most assistance; but we are often able to help people beyond that – and even where they don’t have a claim. We work closely with colleagues who can help with a range of legal services beyond litigation, and more widely we can help people get access to peer support, benefits assistance, financial advice, counselling and more. The work we do to support charitable organisations and patient groups is also something that makes a real and practical difference to people who need that support in the aftermath of a life changing injury. I like that we can make a difference‘.
Areas of work: Spinal Cord Injury – both higher level and lower level – cervical, thoracic, lumbar – complete and incomplete tetraplegia and paraplegia (including spinal cord injuries arising from clinical negligence, cauda equina syndrome, spinal epidural abscess, manual handling issues around unstable neck/back fractures and all claims involving spinal cord injury).More widely: life changing injuries (notably amputation, brain injury, fatal accidents).
