Ben Posford

Ben Posford is Head of the Catastrophic Injury Department at Osbornes

Ben acts exclusively for claimants who have suffered life-changing injuries of the utmost severity, including spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, fatalities, amputations, disfiguring burns and other severe injuries.

Ben is recommended as a leading lawyer in the fields of both personal injury law and clinical negligence in the Legal 500 independent client directory, and is a band one (top-ranked) “leading individual” in the other key legal directory, Chambers & Partners. Ben is also an accredited Fellow of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.

Ben has a special interest in early rehabilitation and housing issues for the seriously injured, particularly those with severe brain injuries, paraplegia or tetraplegia, and on behalf of his clients pursues insurers for initial compensation payments from the outset to establish effective care and therapy regimes, and to secure appropriate accommodation.

He regularly contributes to the national media on issues concerning health and safety, corporate or gross negligence manslaughter, and compensation awards for catastrophic injuries. He has written for The Times, various legal journals, and appeared on the BBC. He has forthright views about the rights of people who are injured through no fault of their own, and lectures on issues involving compensation and civil procedure.

Ben is an accredited Fellow of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), and for several years has been the elected Secretary of APIL’s national Damages Special Interest Group. Through APIL he has been a contributor to working parties on reform of the Fatal Accidents Act 1976, Lord Briggs’ proposals for the introduction of online courts, reforms to the calculation of accommodation claims in catastrophic injury cases, and new sentencing guidelines for gross negligence manslaughter.

Ben Posford has twice been a finalist for Claimant Personal Injury Lawyer of the Year at the Personal Injury Awards, and the department won Claimant Personal Injury Team of the Year in 2015.

Ben has an approachable and down-to-earth manner, and is always happy to discuss and explain the law to individuals who are unsure about their right to compensation, either in person or over the telephone. He has a reputation for pursuing and winning complex and high-profile claims.
