Sarah Stewart

Sarah is a partner in the top ranking aviation team at Stewarts and a leading female aviation lawyer acting for families and survivors of headline aviation accidents.

She is recommended for contentious aviation work in Who’s Who Legal and is a prominent figure in the claimant aviation market in both domestic and international claims having acted for many families following major air disasters, fatal helicopter and light aircraft accidents in the UK, Europe and worldwide. 

Sarah acted for the claimant in the landmark case of Rogers v Hoyle (Court of Appeal 2014) which changed the law to enable all families and victims to use accident reports in aviation litigation in the UK.

Sarah has been recognised and commended in the foremost independent legal directories. A Leading Individual in The Legal 500, in Chambers and Partners 2021 she is ranked in Band 1, described as "excellent" and “absolutely brilliant - she is very professional, calm and has a sound grasp of the situation."

Sarah is currently acting in HM Coroner’s inquest for families of victims of the Shoreham Airshow disaster, as well as families of passengers on board the two Boeing 737 Max accidents (Lion Air Flight JT610 and Ethiopian Airline ET302). 

Other major aviation disaster instructions in the last five/six years have included Egyptair Flight MS804 (2016), AirAsia Flight QZ8501 (2014) and Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 (2014). Recent high profile light aircraft and helicopter accidents have included the Papillon Grand Canyon Eurocopter EC130 helicopter crash (2018), Coastal Aviation Cessna 208B (2017), and the Lord Ballyedmond AgustaWestland AW139 helicopter crash (2014).

Sarah sits on the Air Law Committee at the Royal Aeronautical Society and is a visiting lecturer at Cranfield University for their MSc in Aviation Safety. She is a member of APIL, PEOPIL and IAWA
