Balfour+Manson, Edinburgh
Ann has been privileged to have worked for over 30 years for clients, who through no fault of theirs have suffered injury due to an accident or medical negligence, to obtain fair recompense.
She trained at Balfour+Manson and after broadening her horizons in London and Hong Kong, returned in 1994. Since then she has conducted many different types of claims, including personal injury cases arising from accidents at work, on the roads and in the air. Her main focus is pursuing medical negligence claims. She pursues a wide variety of cases, including those concerning birth trauma, treatment provided by surgeons, GPs, dentists, ophthalmologists, nurses, radiologists and other health professionals, and has settled many cases due to a delayed diagnosis of cancer.
Ann has extensive experience in high value catastrophic claims, particularly for babies injured at birth, securing 8 figure sums in compensation for clients in cerebral palsy and brain injury cases. She has always been dedicated to assisting individuals and their families, many of whom have been through devastating life events. It gives her immense satisfaction to see a family’s quality of life transformed by the input of specialist carers, therapists and professional advisors, who can then support them to live the best life they can. There is no stronger motivation than being able to help others through a difficult journey.
Ann aims to be professional, and at the same time approachable and empathetic. She knows how important it is to have clear and comprehensive advice about available options; to obtain answers and accountability, and ensure everything possible is done to avoid negligent mistakes being repeated in the health sector. She is very grateful to have been ranked in both clinical negligence and personal injury work annually in both the Legal 500 and Chambers legal directories, and in 2023 was awarded the Insurance Lawyer of the Year at the Legal 500 Scotland Awards. The team were also shortlisted. As a partner and head of clinical negligence, she enjoys leading her team of highly skilled lawyers who all embody the same ideals, working hard for the individual, who is at the heart of all we do.
She enjoys working with other professionals in educating both lawyers and doctors to maintain the highest standards. She is involved in lecturing and participating in government consultations, advising on the development of new organisations and procedures in Scotland, and aiming to secure efficient and early investigation and resolution of cases.
When she is not at work, you will find Ann trying to keep vaguely fit, mostly by dancing, and singing very badly, to Abba.
