Jatinder is a Senior Associate Solicitor and Head of the Group Illness Team within the market leading International Serious Injury Department at Irwin Mitchell LLP. He has significant experience of handling complex and high-value international serious illness and injury claims including a complex claim which is likely to be the highest valued gastric illness claim ever in the UK. He also currently acts for a young boy who contracted E.Coli-0157 on holiday in Egypt in November 2016 and then developed a serious renal condition called Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome. The claim is currently pleaded at over £1 million. This is alongside dealing with complex detailed assessment of costs and cases which have reached the Court of Appeal and some of the largest group action claims of their kind.
Jatinder is the lead Solicitor on the case of Peter Griffiths v TUI UK Limited which has recently been the subject of a successful, high profile, appeal before Mr Justice Martin Spencer and where the Defendant is seeking a further appeal to the Court of appeal.
Jatinder also leads on the Steigenberger Aqua Magic group action where the firm acts for over 50 holidaymakers following holidays ruined by illness at the same Egyptian hotel where a British couple died in August 2018. Jatinder also acts for over 70 holidaymakers whose holidays were ruined this year following holidays at a Cuban hotel, the Playa Pesquero, and over 30 holidaymakers who parasitic infections at the Paradise Park Hotel in Tenerife in 2018.
Jatinder specialises in serious injury claims arising from food poisoning both in the UK and abroad, in addition to those relating to fatalities arising from legionnaire’s disease which often result in substantial awards of compensation. These cases often have difficult liability and quantum issues and regularly attract significant national media coverage.
He is an APIL accredited Fellow and an APIL Accidents and Illnesses Abroad Specialist. Jatinder is Secretary of APIL’s specialist international group.
