Prof Pat Price trained in general medicine in Cambridge and in oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital & Institute of Cancer Research. She was a clinical academic consultant at Hammersmith Hospital with research programme grants from the UK Medical Research Council, Cancer Research UK the US National Institute of Health. In 2000 she established the first Ralston Paterson chair in radiation oncology at the Christie Hospital and set up the new Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre at the University of Manchester.
Pat is a past president of the British Oncology Association (BOA), has served on the Board of the European Organisation for the Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) and sits on scientific committees at the America Association of Cancer Research (AACR). She created and is chair of trustees of the only UK national radiotherapy research charity –Action Radiotherapy. She has an international reputation in the molecular imaging of tumour biology and currently is a director of a molecular imaging advisory company. Pat co-edits the UK standard textbook of oncology “Treatment of Cancer” now in its 6th edition and which will be the first on line comprehensive oncology textbook.
Pat returned to Imperial College in 2010 as visiting professor in oncology. Pat has specialised in chemotherapy and radiotherapy cancer treatment over the last 23 years. She has a particular interest in cancer biology and growth rates of tumours. Pat has dealt with over 900 medico-legal reports over the last 20 years, has undertaken some international medicolegal work in St Helena, Hong Kong, Gibraltar and Ireland and has lectured on oncology medico-legal cases to solicitors, the AVMA and the MDU. One of her sons is a lawyer at Charles Russell in London and she is leading a team “Running for Radiotherapy” competing in the 2014 London 10K to raise money for Action Radiotherapy trying to ensure all patients in the UK get access to the best radiotherapy wherever they live.
