Mr Rahman was appointed as a consultant surgeon in January 2008. Prior to that, he undertook his higher surgical training in the Yorkshire Deanery and held an academic appointment as a lecturer in surgery (University of Leeds). He was awarded a Hunterian Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2007 for his research work.
His experience in advanced minimally access surgery and pancreaticobiliary surgery were complimented by fellowships in Hamburg (Germany) and Hong Kong. He is a tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a trust specialty training director. He is currently leading the development of robotics in upper abdominal surgery at the Royal Free Hospital.
Mr Rahman has been undertaking work as an expert witness since 2009; providing reports in all aspects of general and emergency surgery for the GMC, medical defence unions, solicitors, HM coroners, and private insurance companies. He currently produces 70 – 100 reports per year with an approximate 50:50 claimant: defence ratio.
