Profesor Peter Szlosarek is a clinical senior lecturer at the Barts Cancer Institute (BCI), and consultant in medical oncology at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, London. He studied medicine and pharmacology at King’s College, London and specialised in medical oncology completing a PhD in cancer biology at the University of London. After a substantive NHS oncology consultant post, he rejoined the BCI as principal investigator and physician scientist in 2008, studying the role of abnormal cancer metabolism involving the amino acid arginine.
His main clinical and research interests are in mesothelioma and melanoma with a particular emphasis on targeted drugs, and metabolic and immunotherapeutic approaches. Dr Szlosarek is involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate education and his research work has been presented at various international conferences with invited lectures in the US, Europe and Asia. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, the EORTC, AACR and ASCO. He is the recipient of two prestigious clinical research fellowships from Cancer Research UK, serves as current chair of the NCRI Mesothelioma Subgroup and is training the next generation of mesothelioma investigators.
