Irene Broadley-Westerduin

Dr Broadley-Westerduin is an experienced Chartered and Educational Psychologist with considerable success in working with children and adults. She completed doctoral-level research in cognitive psychology, with a particular focus on the impact of training short-term memory. She is knowledgeable, empathic and understanding of the difficulties families experience while supporting them through these challenges. She has undertaken assessments and been involved in over 400 court cases relating to medical negligence and personal injury. Her work includes trauma and negligence cases, as well as identifying appropriate placements for young people in relation to their social, mental health, behavioural and learning needs.

Dr Broadley-Westerduin has completed numerous assessments for the courts involving children and young people who have been involved in accidents, as well as children who have experienced difficulties following birth.

She completed her PhD with the Portsmouth Downs Syndrome Trust and has worked with hundreds of children with Down Syndrome over the past 37 years. She regularly provides tribunal and court reports within this specialist field.

Dr Broadley-Westerduin regularly attends court for National Trials and High Court trials, with her work divided approximately 50% between claimant and defendant instructions. She has produced several hundred reports for the courts relating to medical negligence, accidents and a wide range of head injuries that impact a young person’s education, social and emotional development, and mental health.

Dr Broadley-Westerduin is qualified to conduct a range of psychometric assessments with pre-school children, children and young people aged 6–16, as well as adult assessments for university DSA applications and other court instructions. She regularly undertakes medical negligence work and conducts psychometric assessments for tribunals involving children with complex difficulties, including developmental and sensory issues, dyslexia and associated difficulties, ADHD, ASD, head and brain injuries, and cerebral palsy.
