Overview
This session, led by Lois Norris, will explore the key issues involved in applying and challenging multipliers in care claims. Attendees will gain practical insights into the use of Ogden multipliers, the circumstances in which alternative approaches may be justified, and methods for ensuring that care claims remain robust in the face of changing circumstances. The session will also examine how different hypothetical scenarios can affect claim valuation and outcomes, helping practitioners make informed and defensible decisions.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Understand the principles underpinning multipliers and assess the reliability of Ogden-based calculations.
- Identify circumstances where departure from the Ogden multipliers may be appropriate and support such arguments with evidence.
- Apply strategies to future-proof care claims against changing economic, medical, and personal circumstances.
- Evaluate the impact of “what if?” scenarios on care needs, life expectancy, and claim valuation.
- Develop a practical framework for analysing and presenting multiplier evidence in care claims.
- Increase confidence in advising clients and stakeholders on complex multiplier-related issues.
