A Manchester-based lawyer has been elected to a leading role with a national UK campaign group which supports people who have suffered life-changing injuries due to negligence.
Kim Harrison is the new secretary of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) having previously served as APIL president from 2024 to 2025.
“My work is a huge privilege and my biggest inspiration continues to be the determination and bravery of injured victims of negligence to secure justice and redress,” said Ms Harrison.
“APIL is a not-for-profit organisation committed to supporting injured people, and personal injury lawyers who are dedicated to securing justice for injured people. I am honoured to be re-elected to APIL’s executive committee, this time to the role of APIL secretary, to help to continue APIL’s work in building a brighter future for victims of negligence,” she went on.
Ms Harrison is a principal lawyer and head of operations for abuse law, human rights, and public inquiries at Slater & Gordon in Great Bridgewater Street. She has represented several participants in the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) as well as 11 of the families of the victims of the Manchester Arena bombing in the public inquiry.
“As a teenager news reports of injustices inspired me to want to become a solicitor and make a difference. I grew up in a working-class family and was once told by a college careers advisor that my background would hold me back. It hurt, but I pushed on, studied hard, and qualified as a solicitor. I wish that careers advisor could see how wrong she was.
“I look forward to supporting APIL’s campaigns across the UK. Working to ensure injured people can access full and fair compensation, and helping to put injured people at the heart of any policymaking which affects them,” Ms Harrison said.
