“A root and branch review of the county courts is an entirely sensible, and welcome, recommendation. The committee’s report is a depressing read, but there are no surprises. Users of the courts are all too familiar with crumbling buildings and long delays. As we told the committee in our evidence, fully funded and supported courts are essential for a properly functioning civil justice system, a system which is a cornerstone of a just and fair society. Ours needs urgent attention.”
